Save Wetlands and Wildlife

For those that don't know, I live in New Orleans.  I just bought a Katrina-blighted property that I'm renovating.  I am a huge advocate for New Orleans in general, and the city has endured more than her fair share of hardships lately.

Now we are facing a man-made disaster just as we are beginning to move beyond defining our city in terms of Katrina.

I wanted to pass along information on resources to those interested in helping with the wildlife and environmental recovery efforts.  We are based in New Orleans, so this is very personal for us.

As you can imagine, things down here in New Orleans are tense as we wait for the oil in the Gulf of Mexico to begin coming ashore.  The other night I could actually smell the oil burning from my home.  It was an eery feeling.

A lot of people have asked me how they can help the wildlife and wetlands, so I am maintaining a list of organizations along the Gulf Coast that are in need of help.  The list is on Landscapedia at http://www.landscapedia.info/gulfRecovery.php and will be updated frequently as I get more information.

Please pass this list along to your list of contacts.  I am also passing along donations made directly from that page organizations working to save wildlife. Finally, there is a link to a great shirt made by a local company to raise funds.  100% of funds go to the Audubon recovery effort.

Thanks for sending this along.

Michael
